I recently traded for this substantial Santo Domingo turquoise necklace and am trying to determine who the possible artist might be. There are no hallmarks or any signature bead that I have found. If anyone recognizes the work I would love to know. Thanks for your help.
I donāt have a clue butā¦Wow!
@Islandmomma Substantial & a Showstopper!! What a magnificent necklace. The green (to me ) turquoise is just beautiful. Enjoy wearing your new turquoise treasure!
Wowza, thatās amazing!! And I love your cuffs!
Yes, I select the green button
Yowza! That is delectable!
(ā¦says another member of the āgreenā camp )
Wowā¦beautiful turquoise and nicely graduated beading. Make sure you practice good posture when you wear that! Do you mind telling us where you found this gem?
On Facebook. Iām a member of several private groups and a couple of public groups. A girl Iāve been friends with for a long time posted a picture, and this was across the bottom of it. When I commented about it, she replied that it could be available. We started messaging, and after she looked at a few pictures from me. We agreed to a trade. Weāve done this once before I love sending something that I donāt wear and getting something new.
Are you an inch shorter when you put it on?
Thatās a gorgeous piece.
@Islandmomma
STUNNING!!!
Thatās a lot of green and beautifully crafted : )
Wowā¦thatās a massive piece? Is the color more like the turquoise in the first photos, or the deeper green in the other photos. Both are nice, but that deep green is so yummy!
Did you get any information regarding when it was made? The findings look fairly new, so Iām guessing itās a contemporary maker. Down the road when I visit with jeweler friends at Kewa, Iāll show it to them to see if they have an idea.
Wow wow wow! Thatās huge and beautiful! Congratulations! No idea on an artist.
And maybe if you still havenāt found out by next summer I can ask around at the Eiteljorg Indian Art Market or at least thoroughly check out every booth, and see if thereās anything like it for sale
The color is closer to the deep green. Thanks and I would love for you to ask your Kewa friends. I didnāt think to ask her but now I think I will. I remember her saying that she had paid more than she was asking but when we ended up trading I forgot. It sounded like she might have bought from the artist or a gallery. Thanks for the reminder.
Thanks and yes you should thoroughly check every booth. There might be another one like it.
Yesterday was a fun and informative day for me. Went to a local powwow with a friend and we enjoyed the sunshine, dancing, talking to some regulars and having a good barbecue lunch. We also got a chance to talk about her month long trip out west which included Indian Mart. She was so lucky to meet many Facebook friends and also many artists. All in all a wonderful trip that included some beautiful jewelry purchasesā-. I digress.
Yesterday during the powwow she got a message from a friend who knows and is related to many of the artists. When she answered she sent a picture of us and asked if he knew that maker of my necklace. His reply was yes; he was at the market. She also met that artist so she messaged him and he confirmed that he made the necklace āa long time agoā. He asked a construction detail and when I left for home he had not replied to her answer. So even though I would love more details I am very excited to know that the necklace was made by Lupe Lovato!
Great news.
I did a search for some of his other necklaces. They are all beautiful and substantial.
Did not see anything similar to yours. It is so unique.
Thatās what had me stumped. Itās not a style that he does anymore and I couldnāt find anything like it. My friend messaged him directly and his response was that he made it āa long time agoā. Iām hoping he will be more specific when he responds to her message about the construction question he asked. It might have some pretty good age because heās been working for more than 50 years.
My friend, you sure have a good eye! Congratulations.
Well how ābout that! Congratulations!!! Do you think itās been restrung? The only reason Iām asking is because of the bright, shiney new appearing findings??? Hope he can tell you the turquoise he used, that would be great to know. Lupe is a very nice looking older manā¦really nice smile!
