Bummed that I wasn’t able to get out west this year, and buy some more NA jewelry, but … I did bring home some absolutely AAHMAZING Michigan craft beers. That will have to do for now
I just picked up a nice Eagle pendant necklace on EBay that would be a great gift for one of my sons….who is patriotic. It is by Floyd Becenti Jr. and I really like the design. it was the only item by this artist because I spelled his name wrong….Bicenti……LOL. perhaps the seller was willing to give me a deal since anyone looking up Becenti name wouldn’t find it.
Should I have been nice and told him he spelled the name wrong?
@nanc9354 That’s such a great pendant & a great gift! The eagle within an eagle is so cool.
Nice! I love eagles. I’m quite patriotic too (lots of family have been in the military on both sides), but just love them in general. We never used to see eagles here, but now we have quite a few in northern IN. When we were up in northern MI a year ago, we watched one fish right off the shore of Lake Michigan.
I didn’t even see the eagle within the eagle till @Patina pointed it out, cool.
Thank you Ziacat and @Patina. I think he will really like it. I saw an eagle in the Boundary Waters in May…first trip up there. Water was so clean we put our water bottles down in the water as far as we could…turned them over and filled them up. Like drinking fresh unadulterated water. Saw whitefish spawning up Eddie Falls and snagged a few. Also saw a cormorant in Zion.
Boundary Waters must be amazing. My brother-in-law has been there a couple times. And I love whitefish; just had a whitefish sandwich last week in MI! We used to go to Ontario every year when I was young, and we would fish for whitefish, perch, and walleye (occasionally would get a bony pike). Yum.
That’s gorgeous! I love hummingbirds. I wonder what the dark brown is?
@Steve The best kind of stumbling, imo. Beautiful pin. The background reminds me of tortoiseshell. Do you happen to know what it is?
Yeah, I’m thinking there are laws about tortoise shell, but I’m not up on that.
Yep, you are correct @Ziacat, lots of endangered species laws. The “shell” should be identified as to origin, species, and when collected; and what is legal for NAs to own vs the rest of us. We even have issues on occasion with antique items. For example, I have an original 1940s leopard coat with original tag. But if I want to part it out I could not prove the pieces were c1940s. It’s a paradox.
Thanks, I was thinking that. It is a paradox, but one I don’t mind. It makes me a little ill to think of killing a sea turtle just for its back. Or for that matter, a bear just for it’s claws or a moose only for its antlers. We have a moose antler which was shed, and a taxidermy black bear my dad bought from a MI museum (it had been in our family store so I kept it when it closed rather than selling). I used to love to watch Alaska State Troopers, and was especially fascinated with the episodes involving the wildlife troopers.
moose are edible,BIG & so provide lots of food. hides are tanned & used for many purposes…as are the antlers.
bear are also edible & have hides, etc.
&
bison killed in a nearly successful attempt to destroy the species & the NA that depended on them.
& the northern people using seal…hey, they can get a job at mickydees, right?
dig a bit deeper,eh?
Correct hunting practices.
Umm…if you actually READ my post I didn’t say I’m against hunting them at all, just if they were to be killed ONLY for antlers or claws. Dig deeper yourself.
I did…which is why I added that neither are wasted as you suggest
& thanks to the huge number of hunters who donate their kills to help the hungry
Oh my gosh! I was referring to the people who illegally kill for those purposes. I just saw an article online where someone killed a moose, took it’s antlers and left the rest to rot. If we didn’t have laws, more idiots would do this. I wasn’t talking about hunters in general. Sorry if you took offense.
not offended at all,girlfriend.
just tried to expand on your thoughts. yeah, there are idiots on the planet-even a few moronic enough to waste hundreds of pounds of meat (what’s chicken going for this week?) but thankfully the percentage is very low.
@Steve
I think that background of the hummingbird pin might be tiger cowrie shell.
