I thought I’d share one of my favorite rings. I noticed I may have been wearing this ring upside down. I love math and angles, so I buy turquoise pieces I find cut in non traditional shapes. I had been wearing it with the feathers on top but noticed the hallmark was upside down. I wonder what was the thought behind making this ring? I’m always curious to know. It reminds me of the people I have lost when I wear it. Happy thoughts Have a great day all!
@CyanideRose18 Boy Howdy, I like this ring! But, I almost stopped reading at, “I love math…” (math is my nemesis). Seriously, though, that’s a lovely piece of turquoise and a cool looking ring. Here’s my take: the feathers/headdress indicate the top of the ring. When the ring is oriented in that way, I see an elaborate figure (the turquoise being the “body”). You brought up something that I’ve pondered about for years with rings: the placement of the hallmark - is the maker telling me their vision of how the ring should be worn? Sometimes, I see it the maker’s way, other times I don’t .
Lol Thanks so much @Patina I saw it as a headdress too and I completely agree with you on where the hallmarks are placed. Maybe they had more room to put it on the wider side. Idk..Either way I love the ring and it fit perfectly Thanks so much again. Much appreciated.
Jeez, if the hallmark is any indication that I’m supposed to wear the piece in that specific direction, then I wear a good number of pieces upside down too.
Thanks so much @here4turquoise I just came back from a little therapy shopping at the place I got this ring from. I think I have to do some more research on the turquoise so I know what to look for but I think a necklace with nuggets and heshi is in my future. She has some really nice ones.
That is a super stunning ring, and I too would wear it with the feathers up, as you do.
I suspect that many makers don’t worry about orientation when they stamp their piece. I would wear it whichever way up seems most appropriate or flattering.
And yes, those angles are unusual and lovely. I can see what drew you to it.
