Converting Cuff Watch

No photos yet.

A good friend of mine needs some advice.
She has a very large and heavy Navajo Cuff. It was made by a friend of hers in the 1970’s.
My friend lived in AZ t the time and was immersed in her Native Heritage.

She wondered if it could be converted to be a bracelet.
She she sent me one photo of lots of Navajo jewelry she has and the cuff was in that photo.
I remember seeing a watch cuff like that in one of the threads here.
The cuff is about 2" wide by about 1/8" thick. Has several large turquoise nuggets in it.
My friend will be getting more photos of it to me.
I did caution her on having the cuff modified, as it could be worth a lot of money, as is. She is in her late 70’s, has health issues and limited income.

She also told me that the artist is still alive and living in Milwaukee. The cuff is hallmarked with his name. She is still in regular contact with him.

How much would converting a watch cuff to a bracelet devalue it?
I did tell her not to take it to her regular jewelry store in Northern WI to have work done on it. I would refer her to a place that is used to doing this type of work.

Sorry, but when I downloaded her photo of Navajo jewelry, cropped the watch cuff out, tried sharpening it…
I ended up with a blurry mess, lol.

I will post the new photos here when she sends them to me.
Thank you

Gosh, I feel like I’ve seen a couple threads on here about watches being converted. I have no idea if it would bring the value down or not, but I feel like Jason in the past on here said that watches are a hard sell since people don’t wear them as much now. Does she think the artist would be willing to convert it?

Here is one of the threads…Watch cuff…conversion?

Unfortunately, he is quite elderly and no longer making jewelry.
My friend would probably just wear the cuff once converted.
Sell, only if absolutely needed.

ok…watches mostly have hinges to connect to band. they just need to be “pinched” to release. then just a twist of wire.
i snipped a plain silver ring & plier-ed it through the hinges cuz i wanted it to look “better”
not a tiffany rework but,so?

Look forward to seeing it.

It is this style of watch cuff.
