Good buy? Or goodbye?

I did not order it but it was in the box. Seller is sorry and offers it for about €200 = $220.

Weight is 171g = 5.5oz, so about $120 of sterling silver.

Turquoise quality seems to be so-so to low, and with scratches & disturbing veins. Or am I very wrong? What kind is it?

Hoping to get some feedback if I should keep it. Do not precisely love it.

Seems to be very thin turquoise as you can see the matrix all around the stones.

I don’t love it either, but seller adds something to your order you didn’t ask for and tries to retroactively get you to buy it? That would be a hard no for me.

I’d return it, insure it, and charge on the higher side for S&H.

Thanks. What is S&H?

Shipping and handling. Better yet, ask them what they want to insure it for.

If, and most likely I will, I return it, seller will send a free return code. No problem.

I agree with @OrbitOrange, but what do you mean by “matrix all around the stones?”

I won’t buy anything I don’t absolutely love (one of my “rules”). Wonder if the seller just stuck it in hoping you’d buy it.

Look especially at the last one, the stone has a red-brown rim.

Oh, I see. That might be the backing for the stone, but I’m not sure; I can’t see it well (sitting out in the sun so can’t see my phone screen well).

In my country we call these “items that are herding the shop” - something that will sit in the shop for long time because nobody will ever buy it.

There can be two strategies:

  1. Resell for more money (Navajo stuff is hard to get in Europe, and everything sells on Ebay, but I am the fair guy)
  2. Return for free

I believe the first one won’t be easy.

I can’t say this is definitely Navajo, if that helps in your decision. The silverwork is eccentric; the applique pieces in particular have an Asian/SE Asian vibe.

Seller states it’s Navajo, but he also says this is opal LOL:

@chicfarmer I agree. I was thinking the same but felt so strongly about the point I made above that I didn’t see the need to bring up more reasons it was a no.

Sellers state a lot of things

To be fair, the seller typically deals with ancient coins, which he knows well.
He states he got the items from an auction, so he knows only what he has put in the description.

This would be a hard pass for me. I don’t see this piece appreciating beyond materials value. The turquoise is low quality treated material so not worth much to begin with, and at least one of the smaller stones has been broken in half and poorly repaired.

But kudos on the thread name. Clever

that’s the backing material, like devcon or something similar. very very commonly used, but agree it ideally should be below the level of the bezel.

This thing will now go back to the seller, if anyone wants it …
