Help identifying RLB and picto

Hello all! New here👋🏻

I recently purchased this sterling/turquoise/coral bolo tie. It was described as a piece by Robert Leekity/RLB. However, I just can’t find any info on that artist. The other RLB stamp I find is for Robert/Bernice Leekya. But then there’s also the picto underneath?! Hoping someone knows SOMEthing! Thanks a bunch!

Welcome to the forum @ajrojas.

That’s a beautiful bolo slide. That picto mark has been discussed here in the past.

These guys have a questionable reputation, but the piece itself could be a potential lead for you.

Good luck!

This hallmark has been a puzzle to us on here many times. It seems to show up with many different initials, so maybe it’s kind of some kind of shop mark.

I cannot find much on Robert Leekity, and I suspect that was an error. We had a discussion on here once whether that is an actual person or not. I think the hallmark is on the Amerindian site, but it’s not in Hougart’s, so :person_shrugging:. I am not aware that the Leekyas used the odd little head (or whatever it is) mark. Robert Begay is listed in the Nativo Arts link (although @Ravenscry is correct, they can be a little sketch). I looked him up in Hougart’s 5th edition, and it doesn’t have a picture of his mark, but said one of his is RLB.

Vintage bolos Zuni and?

@ziacat Thank you so much! I was wondering if maybe it was a shop mark. I found a reference that had that mark with different numbers, which supposedly helped identify the metal. But this one has no numbers. :woman_shrugging:t3:

To add to the weirdness of this Native lady’s head/old football helmet/buffalo mark, I just randomly found this in Hougart’s (I was searching through the picto marks section).

So what the heck??? I mean, they’re not exactly the same, but really close. Maybe it’s a stamp that can be purchased (like the cloud+rain one we see sometimes), and different artists have used it?
