I was on a Hopi roll today and also bought this water wave belt buckle. I’m pretty sure that I have identified it correctly but I would like to know more about it if possible. He was active since the 70’s and passed in 2005 so I have no idea how old it is. I was trying to find other buckles by him for price comps but haven’t been successful so far. The buckle is about 3.5” wide but the seller didn’t mention the height. I’m pretty sure it’s got some age on it because it’s got an artist made fixed bar, but I’m definitely not certain about how old. As usual, I will appreciate any of your help. Thanks so much.![]()
That’s a really nice looking buckle, @Islandmomma. The repeating pattern is mesmerizing. Can’t help on its age, but the fixed bar is always a plus for me regardless of age.
I’m partial to your buckle. Looks like it has some weight to it.
I like your artist name much better than mine. Now maybe I will be able to find some similar work. Thanks ![]()
Thank you. It would be nice if they provided some more information like the weight. However, her husband was constantly talking over her so I didn’t ask as much as usual. I think it has decent weight and will let you know when I get it in hand.
Thanks. As many buckles as I’ve seen you post, I take that as a compliment. ![]()
@Islandmomma You did well on your Hopi roll today! That’s an oustanding belt buckle. I find its design mesmerizing. Can’t go wrong with Steven Sockyma jewelry, imo.
Congratulations on your beautiful buckle, @Islandmomma. The Hopi water wave pattern never fails to remind me of engraved scrollwork, something I’ve always enjoyed losing myself in. I’m of no help to you concerning its age, but the saw work looks nice and tight, and I agree with @TAH, a fixed bar is a big
. I also like the apparent heft and execution of the prong: there’s a lot more solder holding this on than would be present on a simple post. Thank you for sharing!
Well, I finally got the buckle. USPS is taking more than nine days to get here from Utah. Anyhow, I wore it for the first time today and actually thought about taking a picture before I changed clothes. So please ignore the filthy mirror.(which I noticed when I saw the picture. Just cleaned it last week) and enjoy the buckle. It is 3.25 by 2.25” and weighs 71 grams. I’m quite pleased!
@IslandMomma Hi ~ Glad you received your buckle & that you’re happy with it! Ugh, I’m experiencing similar time lags with mail delivery. Maybe I misunderstood but, I’m not seeing an attached photo…
Oh good grief! It might be because I forgot to add the picture. ![]()
@Islandmomma that is one of the loveliest buckle designs I’ve ever seen. So elegant and precisely cut! Wear it in good health ![]()
