I got tired of finding faux turquoise in my area, plus always wondering about things being stabilized or not.
Wanted to have some all-natural necklaces for everyday wear, without breaking the bank, so decided to try and make/ assemble some myself.
Only concession was using RVS metal wire for strength, after having experienced breakage issues with natural (silk) wire.
Started to look abroad, closer to the source, to find the materials i desired.
I’m happy with the result and wear them everyday now.
Thought i’d share 'em with the turquoise people.
I love them. I mix vintage and modern elements in jewelry, too.
Nice results foir the forst time.
I used to use spiderwire fishing line for stringing necklaces.
the same thing is now being sold as Fire Wire, for stringing jewelry. It is very durable and lasts a long time.
@fernwood Thank you! I’ve admired your work & stories here on the forum.
I had checked the spiderwire, but it’s logo wasn’t for me, will check the other brand you mentioned, thanks for the tip!
Those turned out really well! They’re pretty and you did a good job on assembling them. Seeing all these people here who are good at making jewelry and knowing that I’m so totally not crafty makes me a little envious at times! I’m looking into classes or seminar on how to make jewelry, because I really am interested in learning, but I’ve never really been good at arts and crafts types of things.
Thank you @Xtina ! And perhaps you should just give it a try, i’m sure you’d manage fine. There are beading starter kits available for $15 or something with a few tools that are handy and there are quite a few reputable dealers in the US that have gorgeous beads etc. imho if you get some nice materials a necklace (or bracelet) like these almost will bead themselves. Only the final knot can be a bit tedious sometimes, but still well do-able.
