Hi all I hope everyone is well. Tomorrow is my birthday and yesterday I decided to treat myself to this cuff. I don’t know anything about it and it was in the jewelers scrap pile along with some other pieces they let me purchase. A few stones are loose, so I googled the stones to figure out what they could be and this came up. Not sure at all but they do look similar. Any information or thoughts would be greatly appreciated. The cuff and then the google image last. Thanks so much in advance. Dang it, the pictures are out of order.
Happy early birthday @CyanideRose18!
It appears the image you took a screenshot of was taken from Shiprock Santa Fe’s website. If you didn’t already know, they’re one of the most esteemed and respected Southwest galleries. The scratched letters on the underside of your cuff could be an earlier pricing code for a trader, and it looks like there’s some beautiful stamp work at the terminals. Yours does bear many similarities to the one that Shiprock sold, and if yours is indeed a Dan Simplicio, you literally saved a diamond from the scrap. @chicfarmer is very knowledgeable on Simplicio’s works and early bracelets in general so I’d be very curious to hear her thoughts.
Hi @Ravenscry , Thank you so much. I was there for at least an hour digging through her pieces. She told me they had just melted a bunch of turquoise a couple weeks ago, so I was so happy to get the pieces I got. She told me I could come back anytime and I plan to go back on Thursday and see what else I can find. Thanks so much again and thanks for the info on that site too.
The best gifts are usually the ones we buy ourselves. Congrats on what looks like a sleeper she had.
Thanks Steve That is very true. I initially went there with my husband who was rushing me out of there but I decided to go back by myself yesterday. She was really kind to let me go through all that with customers constantly coming it.
Happy Birthday
stunning treat I wish I could find pieces like that.
Thanks so much LiquidGold I got lucky lol
The turquoise was so nice I had to buy it.
Thanks, Aaron. I always caveat attributions to Dan Simplicio, because so much was unsigned, and suggest getting more expert eyes on any possible jewelry. I used to recommend Dan Jr. to confirm but he was unresponsive to @Ziacat.
@Cyanide Rose your cuff is fabulous, and the stones are so wild and special and do resemble the Shiprock cuff. The description of the Shiprock cuff cuts off, but it seems to say that the stones came from CG Wallace–which would be incredibly special if that’s also true for your piece!
So: I would recommend sending pics to Brown’s Trading and Kim Messier to get their opinions.
@CyanideRose18, when you find the time, if you could please provide a clear photo of the scratched letters, I may be able to provide some insight into that. It looks like EEOA, but I’d prefer to see a clearer photo.
For everyone else, here is the full description of Shiprock’s cuff.
Happy early b day!! You found a treasure for sure even if ends up not being a Simplicio. Absolutely gorgeous turquoise. Chic is right; I emailed him twice (he responded the first time, and told me to go ahead and send pics but I never heard back). Fortunately I think I may have gotten my answer through another source. But I would for sure contact the places she suggested.
@LiquidGold it is true it will be nearly impossible to find deals like that overseas, plus @CyanideRose18 knows what to look for. But you can purchase beautiful items if you’re willing to shop at legitimate stores online over here. Yes, you won’t get a deal, but you will be sure of getting legit Native American jewelry without wasting your money on stuff that ends up being fake. You can also find artists on Instagram, and order from them that way. In the end you may actually save yourself money even if you pay more in the moment.
Thank you so much @chicfarmer I really appreciate it. I’m so glad I didn’t put glue in the loose stones. Maybe I’ll send it to be fixed. Thanks so much again for all your help and suggestions too.
Steve you are truly the GOAT! I stink at anything like this lol. I gotta take 100 photos to get one decent picture. Thanks so much
I hope you can make it out @Ravenscry, this iPhone 16 camera is the worst. I can get my husband to take a better picture when he gets home.
@CyanideRose18, I’d like to second @chicfarmer’s suggestions. Both Nila Brown from Brown’s Trading and Kim Messier are responsive and eager to help. Whatever you find out from either or both sources, please let us know!
Thank you for the photo @CyanideRose18. It looks like EIOA.
I, admittedly, know very little when it comes to turquoise, but the stones in your cuff look like some incredible examples of #8. The matrix very much resembles #8 stones that are set in one of my ketohs.

Hey Ziacat, thanks so much I usually don’t celebrate my birthday but now that I’m able to get my senior discount, I figured why not treat myself lol. I’ll give it a shot and see if I get a response. I post it.
I will definitely post if I get a response. Is Kim Messier with Brown’s trading too? Thanks so much again @Ravenscry I really appreciate it.
Kim, and her mother, Pat, are renowned authors, researchers, bloggers, and collectors, among a wonderful amount of many other things. They’re highly regarded and well respected, absolute pillars in the Native American art world.
To my knowledge, Kim handles their online presence, and she is a joy to speak to and learn from. As I mentioned before, she really wants to help and does all she can to do so.
Here is their blog.
I love this I would love to find one these. I’m terrible at turquoise too but your stones are gorgeous.
Much appreciated @Ravenscry I will definitely reach to them. Thanks so much for sharing that information. I will read their blog as well. You can never have too much knowledge
