My first buckle… Royston?

I finally found a buckle I really like  I don’t know anything about it. I paid $160 for it. My guess on the turquoise is royston? What do you guys think? Now off to find a belt

Very nice. Are there any Hallmarks on it?
I enlarged your photo of the back, but could not see any.

Thanks fernwood :grinning: I didn’t really see anything at first but there are a couple triangles lower right side but it’s pretty worn. That’s all I could find, unfortunately. It’s almost 100 grams, so I thought it was a good deal. It’s dark here so I could try and get better pictures tomorrow but it just looks like triangles, no letters that I can tell.

I love it! Appears sandcast. It reminds me of my mom’s buckle a bit. Maybe Royston (or Pilot Mountain?), I dunno. I can’t see the triangles; could they just be marks in the silver from the sandcasting? My mom bought hers in '69 and there is no hallmark.

Oh yes, you need a belt

Great vintage buckle and a wonderful first @CyanideRose18 . Buy them all day at that price, especially at the prices for new jewelry I’ve been seeing. I really like the turquoise. I also like that the belt attachment looks hand made as well - not just a commercially available bar.

Thank you so much Ziacat :grinning: I think it is sandcast too. I’m still learning though. It could definitely be wear, instead of an actual mark. As soon as I saw it, I had to purchased it

Thanks so much Steve  I couldn’t believe how cheap I got it. I would have paid a bit more but I’m glad I didn’t have to

Of course you had to  Now you need a tooled or whipstitched belt to wear with jeans and a fun black shirt. That’s what I like anyway, but I’m a jeans girl.

That sounds like an awesome belt  Now I just gotta find one. I love vintage Levi’s. I collect them, so I have the quite a few. Jackets too lol. My husband just shakes his head at this point but he is digging the buckle and is curious to see what I will find

I actually know better than to hazard a guess on the turquoise, but when I first saw it, before I read the description I thought Sonoran Gold. Attaching a couple of pics to compare.

It does look like it. Might depend how old the buckle is; I think Jason said it’s a pretty new mine.

I have a pendant with Sonoran Turquoise that I bought from Britwest, but I bought it in '21 or '22. She has quite a few things with it for sale, but I don’t think they started showing up on her site till about then. I’m really starting to like that stone though.

Everything I’ve read says the mine began turquoise production in 2019. That’s why when I came across a Etsy listing for a vintage Sonoran Gold piece, my eyebrows went up. Although I suppose someone could always put new SG cabs in an old setting.

Thanks TryingToLearn  They aren’t that blue, unfortunately. They are a bit more on the greener side. I tried to get a picture but it’s dark here, so just using I indoor light. Pretty close to the color in person.

i agree, SG is a very recent mine and these stones look “older” ?? idk. the stones in your pic are some of the best SG, if you’ve ever seen it in person, it is VIVID. like neon blue and bright grassy spinach green.

the stones in that buckle have mellowed with age and I doubt it were this vivid even when brand new.

that buckle is absolutely gorgeous!

Thank you so much Jemez2 :grinning:

Well, I did try. I can get a definite ID if you like. Easier with the real thing so just send it to me and I’ll get it back to you in a couple of years.,

Lol no worries at all TryingToLearn, I thank you so much for helping me try and figure out what the turquoise is. My husband said “It’s really nice! You’re selling it right?” I’m like “No?!!”

Not Sonoran Gold, that is a newer mine and this looks older. My Sonoran Gold pieces look more…minty green, I guess you’d say.
