New NA jewelry additions

I bought a small lot for cheap and was so excited to get a smooth Heishi necklace for $40. Unbeknownst to my untrained eye, it turned out to be block turquoise which isn’t worth much. Why would someone spend all that time making the beads if they are not real turquoise? Lesson learned. At least the nicely stamped earrings tested sterling as did the ring. The other purchase was a nice cast Navajo bird pin for 10 bucks…which I love. .

I’m sorry to hear about your necklace. The other items are nice. I usually like the pin.

Yummy! I’ll take the two cast cuffs please!
I may have to arm wrestle @Ziacat for the AA cuff😋

I’m going to add these earrings here, because even though I purchased them on our recent trip, I didn’t get them at the Twin Rocks Trading Post. I purchased them at a nice Native American Art gallery in Moab that I had forgotten about. These are made by Hopi artist Veryl Pooyouma. I like the shape because it is a bit unusual, and they’re a little longer without being heavy. I just can hardly do heavy earrings anymore.

The owner of the gallery was so nice, and spent about 45 minutes with us pulling out stuff from his back room to show us just for fun

I love them. You always pick things I like.

I was bidding on these gorgeous Frederico Jiminez earrings which I did not win. I would have gone higher if there had been better pictures of the stones. I don’t feel comfortable paying 400–500 bucks if I don’t have close ups of the stones. What type of turquoise do you think they are? Plus they look totally different at different angles and light.

My new ring attributed to Ron Yazzie (signed RON Y.) Just arrived. No idea of the turquoise but I bet @Ziacat might have an idea. :slightly_smiling_face:

Very nice! I love it

I’ve been on a bit of a spending freeze after all my vacation shopping late last year; but, in celebration of a pretty big professional milestone last month, I decided to treat myself to something new. As some of you know, I’m based in Paris (although I am American), so my only real option for Native jewelry is a single (fairly well-sourced) boutique—but you really, really pay for it there. Costs are probably about double even the Santa Fe galleries and only get more reasonable when prices increase (meaning, expensive items are technically cheaper because they’re making their margins elsewhere). At least, that’s my assessment.

In the past, I’d found a great Wylie Secatero carinated cuff and some simple squash blossom post-style earrings, but otherwise haven’t done much buying.

Thus, I surprised myself by springing for a heishi necklace at perhaps double my budget! It’s by Rudy Coriz, who I met about a million years ago outside the Palace of the Governors in Santa Fe (and when I absolutely could never have afforded a single thing he made). Apparently, he’s a major supplier for this Parisian boutique, as confirmed on his website! Quel monde!

Here it is—with my apologies for the high-contrast background; for some reason photographing it on a black scarf completely washed the image out, so I used this orange one instead:

I really like the balance of the necklace and where it sits in the dip of my collarbone—it’s perfect for layering and peeks nicely out of a scarf or bandana. I don’t wear much color—in fact, I only wear black—and I’ve been enjoying how crisply the melon shell (melo?) contrasts with my shirts and jackets (and hair/hats!).

As a bonus, since I mentioned it, here’s the Secatero cuff and the wee earrings. It was nearly impossible to photograph the cuff, given the angle of the carination, but I managed to get close by hanging it on a bookcase and a lampshade! It’s extraordinarily heavy/dense for its size. The earrings are obviously not bank-busters, but they sit in a really nice place on my jaw and have become a favorite subtler option (I generally wear very, very big earrings and sometimes need to give my poor lobes a break!).

Now, straight back to the spending freeze!

Love all of your new adds! The heishi necklace is gorgeous; I really like the necklaces with spacers toward the bottom to help it hang well. Beautiful stampwork on the silver pieces, and those squash blossom earrings are super. Congrats!

Beautiful, beautiful pieces! I love them all, and would have trouble picking a favorite  I also have a Wylie Secatero cuff, and it has that same star on the end. I’ve been thinking I kinda need another heishi necklace similar to yours…

When you feel frustrated that the prices for Native American jewelry are so much higher where you are, just remind yourself that buying a plane ticket to get over here to purchase some would also be pretty pricey

And I hear you on spending freezes. I was on one starting after vacation in mid April, but it’s going to end resoundingly with the Indian Market at the end of the month!

what are you using to take your pictures?

@chicfarmer - Thank you! I hadn’t realized until you mentioned it that the spacers—and thus the better drape on my neck—are probably why I pulled the trigger. I’ve tried on so many of them over the years, but none had that attention to detail.

@Ziacat I will be looking forward to living vicariously through your Indian Market purchases!
