I like the lady weaving also, but I couldn’t find much on the artist. I don’t know if they made the necklace (or just the pendant) or if that could have been added. I did see one online site say that the artist was Laguna/Zuni, but I don’t know if that was right.
If it was me, I wouldn’t worry about the hallmark. I’ve never really heard of anyone do anything to protect one.
I have a ring by Allenroy Paquin (met him at the Eiteljorg decades ago) who is Apache/Zuni. Maybe they are related.
Thank you Steve. you are the best sleuth on here. I think it is well made and I like the pendant and the necklace so I guess it may stay a mystery but if I had to pick one…it looks like Offina Pino. The rippled background is seen on some of her work. Offina Pino -Sterling Silver- Vintage Navajo Storyteller Band - Ring Size 8.25 | eBay Thank you for the nice comments @BlytheEcho and @Ziacat. Which earrings are your favorite Hopi from Taylor…can I see a pic…only if you have the time.
Oooh, @AZBoots! Love your ring…screams classic Joseph Coriz!. I also love his jewelry. I saw one of his fabulous turtle/turquoise pendants on a spectacular chain at SF market a couple years ago…here’s hoping you add one to your collection before too long
Some jewelry I recently purchased: Gary S. Custer (Navajo) earrings and a R.Chee pin (Navajo). I consider the pin to be by Robert Chee. Though online, you’ll also see the “R.Chee” hallmark attributed to Rose Chee. For the most part, I think that may be a misnomer. In Hougart’s 3rd edition book, their hallmarks look different and it indicates that Robert does cast work but, not Rose.
Love both of these! I’m so drawn to tufa casting. I’m especially partial to the earrings because I’m a Custer family fan Are the earrings heavy? And I agree with you on the hallmark. Seems like online sites want to just be quick to give a name without really looking into it.
@Ziacat Thanks. The earrings aren’t really that heavy but still a wee bit more than I’d want to wear on a daily basis. Those earrings called to me & I just couldn’t pass them by. I’ll probably be wearing 1 of them as a pendant now & then. Just need to add a jump ring.
Love these, especially the earrings! I love a good classic naja design, and how cool that this one combines the double barred Pueblo cross with the naja.
@Patina did you buy those Gary Custer earrings from ebay, by chance? I had some in my saved list for quite some time and they disappeared recently. I am really loving the Custer family’s tufa work!
I should not have looked at this auction, lol. I’m swooning over the rings with Bisbee turquoise! Also made me realize that I don’t have nearly enough NA jewelry featuring coral. Really gorgeous jewelry.
