I was looking back through this thread at all the beautiful things, and realized your bighorn sheep is by Allison Snowhawk Lee. I wasn’t very familiar with him until I started watching all the Twin Rocks Trading Post videos. He was one of their favorite artists, and they always raved about him (the videos I watched were 8/9 years old). His sons have been at the Eiteljorg Market the last couple years, and they had some gold and Lander Blue jewelry that @TAH posted pictures of here.
I really like his work and the front of this ring really appeals to me. Hopefully a smaller version shows up. I’m new to collecting Hopi pieces but I started collecting them to make a necklace with spaced out pendants that graduate in size, so I still need a few more. Finding a nice size pendant by him for the center would be perfect
@CyanideRose18 What a great find. Yours is definitely a keeper. I was looking for something similar but didn’t find much in the way of Hopi jewelry during our trip. Congratulations on your amazing ring.
Thanks so much here4turquoise I’m not sure of your size but Ziacat’s suggestion of garlands lead me to this ring. It’s the same length of hers. Mine is a bit shorter but a great price for a new piece. It’s an 8 1/2.
That is a good price, and very similar to mine, except mine has typical overlay with cut outs on the band. Prices have even gone up since December, mine was 200
I agree with you Ziacat. Prices have shot up. My lil ring was $90. Gold and silver are crazy expensive. I was looking to buy a gold watch chain with the bar to wear as a necklace because I have a sterling one I love but it was $3000 It was no way I was paying that.
Do you mean the bottom one that I wear as a wedding band? It is, and it was made by Gilbert Dino Garcia, a Kewa artist. I have a couple more of his pieces.
@Ziacat , sometimes figuring out the turquoise type – even hypothetically, as guesswork – can be extraordinarily difficult! Now I’m officially stumped but that’s OK, I can still enjoy it without knowing for sure.
@Patina , I love the stampwork as well. That’s what drew my eye, even more than the turquoise (which is saying something… I love my 'quoise!). It’s the first time I’ve ever seen a piece like this in person, and it would have been impossible to walk away from it.
@nanc9354 , thank you for sharing the link to another Herman Smith butterfly on the Perry Null website. It’s a beautiful one! It’s interesting how the Perry Null one has more naturalistic wings and (if I’m not mistaken) the design on the wings appears to be overlay rather than stamped and repoussé. Just as breathtaking!
I guess it’s a good thing for me that I’m just not into gold. I will keep reminding hubby of that when I shop at the Eiteljorg in a couple weeks Thanks for the extra ammo @Steve!
Actually he jokes about it himself. He told his buddy that he’s lucky his wife’s not fond of gold and diamonds, that turquoise is so much better
Omg Dang it! Well I guess I’ll just enjoy my silver one for now. I buy in lots most of the time, so that single sticker price was jarring. I just can’t justify spending that much.
lol for me too. Especially since my spouse became part of my business when he retired… Ugh. For me it’s just fun for extra spending money. Now he google lens everything I buy.
