New NA jewelry additions

Your cuff is a beauty and is in no way ho hum IMO.

Nice cuff and stone! If you are going to Zion, make sure you go to the narrows. Rent a walking stick and wear shoes with good ankle support. When I went there, it had just opened after the spring and I had water up to my chest. If I had better shoes, I would have gone farther.

I Love Zion…and the narrows are just amazing. We hiked a small part of it years ago, certainly wasn’t water up to our chest! I’ve heard that there are some areas where one might need to swim!
I also love Capitol Reef. If you haven’t hiked the slot canyons there, I’d recommend it. Smaller, true slots and no water (when we were there), no permit required. Amazing what water can do! I looked back at photos I took the last time we were there, it was in 2015😳. Boy, time goes fast:
Acouple photos:

And Goblin Valley is also wonderful! (My son!!)

Great pics, especially the third one. Which slot canyon is that in Capitol Reef? We also hiked part of Zion Narrows years ago. The water was low, and we got as far as the Wall Street section, then it got too deep for us to continue. It made for cool pics, but I didn’t have a digital camera then, just a really nice point and shoot. Last time we were out there we hit a whole bunch of the UT parks, and would have loved to stop at Goblin Valley, but ran out of time. Here’s a couple pics of Capitol Reef. Capitol Gorge I think…

Our favorite trail in Zion is the Observation Point Trail. Unfortunately it is now indefinitely closed due to a rock fall :worried: It is much longer than Angel’s Landing, and a lot less frightening IMO (although some of the big drop offs still scared my hubby), and when you come out on top you are looking down at Angels Landing.

The trail starts at The Grotto, switchbacks way up, and then goes through a box canyon which is beautiful.

Then you climb and climb and climb until you are at the top  The last time I hiked it my hubby only went part way, because he was having hip trouble. My niece is in the pic; she and I pretty much had the trail to ourselves that morning, even though the park was packed.

Grand Staircase is great too. I hope to go back and spend more time there.

Such great photos! I can see we’re all kindred spirits in our love of the gorgeous SW parks!!! I also didn’t use a digital camera back during the good old days…gota look up alot of those photos and scan them to digital brfore too long. So many great areas, but as we’ve discussed, things are so different and more crowded today… remember when you could walk the trail to Cliff Palace without having to go with a tour - the good ol’ days!

Oh, I love all these pics and parks! The water in the Narrows was deep when you were there; I think we just got lucky. The bottom pic where I mentioned my niece is in Zion. But the first pic has my husband and my niece in it, and it does look to be the same place where yours is in Capitol Reef! We’ve only been to Black Canyon once many years ago. We tent camped, and it POURED all night long. That Delicate Arch picture is beautiful.

@Bmpdvm, we visited Mesa Verde when I was in high school, and I think we didn’t have to take a tour of Cliff Palace, and in '21 it was closed, because they were working on it. My understanding is Spruce Tree House is going to be closed for quite a while, maybe permanently, because they found cracks in the roof above it.

I have a new addition…so this is the thread where it belongs and I will have to veer away from canyon discussions. I got this small Hopi pendant in a lot…mainly why I bought the lot…Does anyone know the hallmark? Looks a bit like Andrew Saufkie or Alde Qumyintewa…but not quite exact. It seems well made with nice etchings. Any guesses? Thnx.

Very nice Hopi pendant. Beautiful, clean, professional saw work, and background stamping. A keeper for sure!

Why thank you, Mike.

I think it’s more likely this artist…

Andrew Saufkie’s paw hallmark bends slightly right at the top of the paw.

Thanks Ziacat. that looks more like a match. I couldn’t find that one on line…should have checked Hougarts.

You’re welcome! I found it in my Hopi hallmark book. That’s a sweet little pendant!

What’s nice about the book is that the hallmarks are separated into categories like animal parts, plants, weather symbols, letters, etc., so hallmarks are easy to find.

Here’s a new addition to my Hopi pins. Pictograph hallmarked for Malcorbin Lomakema. I.D.s copied from my books Hopi Silver by Margaret Nickelson Wright & Hougart’s 3rd edition NA/SW Hallmarks. The 5th photo was posted by @AZBoots on Jun 18. I mention this because the deer on the buckle appears to be wearing a “scarf”. The bear on my pin also looks like he’s wearing a “scarf” the way it drapes from his neckline.

Maybe your bear is related to this guy

Seriously though, what a beautiful pin. I would have bought that in a heartbeat. Mr. bear looks so realistic and yet in an artistically pleasing way. Gosh, my goal is next year to hopefully find another Hopi piece.

I’m enjoying re-reading this great thread, especially the great variety of Hopi jewelry. I’ll add acouple of Hopi pieces I recently acquired:
First is this wonderful little pin by Steve Sockyma:

Secondly, these earrings I picked up at Santa Fe Market, by Roy Talahaftewa. It was great to finally meet him, such a nice man! And, I love the way these Hopi names are pronounced!

I really like both pieces. I find it very attractive when the item in focus has etchings surrounding it. @Bmpdvm …nice earrings!

That’s super interesting. There’s a Hopi buckle at the Heard right now that also has a deer with a similar “scarf”.
