In talking with @Ziacat about slab earrings, I thought I would share my little collection (and of course I have another Royston pair on their way, so apparently I have a thing for them…)
Anyone else love these slices of yummy?

I like slab earrngs. Yours are very nice.
Sometimes, the setting takes away form the beauty of the stone.
Although I do not wear earrings, I can appreciate a lovely collection like yours. Slabs are all about the stone.
@RedlandMaggie You’ve got a very nice collection of turquoise slab earrings. I especially like the long ones with orange spiny oyster & turquoise. These are my only 2 pair of turquoise slab earrings (I truly need more!) I bought the smaller pair while on the Turquoise Trail in NM.
Love slab earrings, appreciate their traditional look and that they pair so well with any kind of outfit, including the most casual. I only have two pairs but they’re in regular rotation. I’ll try to get a pic.
Ooh yours are lovely. The spiny oyster slabs were the first pair I bought years ago, but didn’t wear them often as I wasn’t used to long earrings - but now wear them quite often.
@RedlandMaggie Thanks! I’m wearing the smaller ones right now. I’m partial to green turquoise slabs but, feeling like I really need some blue turquoise ones .
Sort of like having many pairs of black shoes - you need one for every occasion
Our dad gave up years ago saying “but don’t you have enough?”, we’d laugh and ignore him (three daughters who like jewelry, as did his mother).
@RedlandMaggie Oh, I really like your new Royston earrings! Beautiful turquoise. They’re a perfect size for daily wear.
Your Royston earrings are fabulous! Especially the way they seem to be butterflied from the slab. They’re essentially mirror images. I’d love a pair like that!
I love wearing brown and turquoise - seems to make the blue “pop”. For years I never wore brown as I didn’t think it was my color - but I’m a brunette so derp, wear brown all the time on my head (until I went grey).
All lovely earrings. And I agree with some of the others here that my favorites are the spiny / turquoise combo ones.
@RedlandMaggie
Looks like I need some slab earrings in my collection…
These are all great!
here’s mine -
top left and middle bottom are Nick Garcia. very thin slices.
top row 2nd, tabs made by Darl Chavez, pump drilled.
wires on top 2nd and 4th were made by I think Darrell Cadman’s wife? I neglected to record her name in my inventory.
top right stones are spectacular, didn’t photograph well. hallmarked “RA”
Bottom left are Alice Platero. pale minty green.
Bottom right are Winona Tapia/Dennis Garcia. Kingman.
closeup of the top right pair in better lighting: so vivid!
@Jemez2 Wow, you’ve got quite a nice selection there! Top row right-side earrings & the minty green pair got my immediate attention. Beautiful turquoise in both.
Question: Are y’all purchasing your slab earrings directly from the makers, i.e., at NA shows or exhibits? Asking 'cause I spent 1.5 hours yesterday looking at slab earrings online & barely saw any that I liked or thought were quality. (I did order 1 blue turquoise pair - about what I’ll be receiving.)
My first pair (the spiny/turquoise) I bought at a vendor booth at a western event, all the others I’ve thrifted, so no clue as to the artists.
Hi, I bought mine directly from the artist, via Instagram. Instagram is definitely a sales platform for many individual artists outside of their show offerings.
Here are mine: natural Bonanza turquoise with coral; spiny oyster with turquoise, both by Piki Wadsworth (Hopi). I’d never heard of Bonanza before seeing these; it’s from Nevada, the Candelaria Hills, and Piki said it was “old material.” Piki is the daughter of famed jewelers Cheryl Yestewa and Glenn Wadsworth.
@chicfarmer Hi ~ Thanks so much for this information - I’ll definitely check out Instagram. Your slab earrings are wonderful! I’m really drawn to the turquoise & spiny oyster pair. I’ve heard of Piki Wadsworth before but, I’m not really familiar with her work. And, I’ve never heard of Bonanza turquoise. I’ll be adding that to my long-running list of turquoise & where it’s mined.
