We are good here now. We’re up in the northeast corner of IN, and I spent about a half hour in the basement as one went over our area, but it didn’t touch down till it crossed the Ohio line. IN got hit pretty hard, but I don’t think anything like Oklahoma strength wise.
Hope you and the others in tornado prone areas all stay safe. We normally get hurricanes (occasionally a tornado) so we have time to prepare and leave. Living on a barrier island usually means that we are under a mandatory evacuation order. My husband always says we are going together but after I load my jewelry there is no room for anything other than me and my purse!
I started the morning off laughing. I live about 40 miles south of Charleston, SC. We had a trial run several years ago and my poor Honda was crammed. At the last minute the storm turned and we decided to stay home. Of course it wasn’t ALL jewelry…besides his truck and the cats also have to leave. And did I mention that he is a horrible backseat driver?
I’m very glad you will take your cats
I’ve actually wondered what I would take if I had an evacuation warning, although we don’t have forest fires and hurricanes to worry about here.
I did take my kitty to the basement with me the other day, not just jewelry!
I have deduced from all the storage / travel concerns and needs that there is only one solution for you folks to take huge amounts of jewelry on vacation. Hence (you might need to adjust your travel plans):
Hahaha hahaha!! I really think that’s probably what I need, it is some kind of rolling armored vehicle. I had to take my car into a body shop recently to get some hail dents fixed, and the shop had several Mercedes Sprinter type vans in the shop. He told me that they use these Vans for government use and they were all outfitted with about 8 tons of armor, Bulletproof glass, the whole works. It was a rolling armada. That sounds about like what we need!
On a serious note, I hope that everyone evaded any danger with weather this week. It was a turbulent week here in North Carolina also; my town had to confirmed tornadoes on Wednesday that did some serious damage around here. Thankfully we weren’t hit but it was very near. I hear you @Islandmomma about hurricanes. We get them even four hours from the coast as they move inland…often they don’t lose much steam even by then. But beach life is so wonderful despite it.
Hey now! Are you making fun of the Duke City?
Yes, we have plenty of crime…that’s what makes it fun to live here! A cop car with sirens blaring just went past my house as I was typing this…haha!
As a longtime Burqueno I miss the food, the culture, the mountains, and most of all the people. I hear you loud and clear on the sirens going by though!
@mmrogers
I was born and raised in PA, but have been in ABQ for 23 years now.
Yes, we have such a rich mix of culture.
I drive around town and just marvel at all the great things we have here that I sometimes take for granted.
My nephew who worked for an un-named government alphabet agency, loved ABQ. He had to move to DC this past Jan (cause that’s so much safer ), and misses it. But when we came to visit him in ABQ, he kept saying about most areas, “don’t be out after 9 pm.” But then he also admitted that he saw the worst of everything, so that probably colored his opinion. He said he could totally see himself retiring there someday.
We went to Albuquerque once on vacation, and we absolutely loved it. I guess we didn’t hang around long enough to really get into a lot of different areas of town, but what we saw was excellent. Loved all the unique museums and the landscape there.
I miss it so much! we left in 2006 after 13 years, half of that in ABQ and and half up in the Jemez. It’s so easy to get jaded by all the amazing things around you, but i do remember hubby and i remarking to each other the entire time we lived in Jemez… “we get to live here!”
some day when the retirement fairy bonks us on the head with her magic wand, we’ll get to move back.
I’ve been thinking about this gem of a vehicle since yesterday. It might be the solution to my desire to experience the south west, specifically New Mexico. I could drive, haul my jewelry and stuff and even live in it. A whole new level of freedom!
