I have been looking into an artist by the name of Timothy Yazzie,
I have also found a Tim Yazzie who was featured in a video with Mark Sublette on Medicine Man galleries and a Timmy Yazzie.
I was wondering if anyone knows if these are all the same artist?
Three different artists or if I am running into another of those Philippine import pieces.
I am seeing a ton of pieces that are claiming to be by an artist named Timothy Yazzie by some of the usual subjects who sell a lot of Phillipine imports.
They are hallmarked only T.
Would anyone here on the website know if there is indeed a Navajo artist named Timothy Yazzie?
The first photo is supposed to be Timothy Yazzie’s Hallmark, just a letter “T”
You’ll also see several other hallmarks some are for Tim Yazzie and some are for Timmy Yazzie.
There is another variation which is a conjoined T and Y which you can see on Medicine Man Galleries which actually does belong to the artist who Mark interviewed.
It is attributed to both Tim and Timmy?
Of course with Yazzie being one of the most common Navajo surnames.
It makes it difficult.
But I’m not finding any evidence of any of these variations of the name in Billie Hougart’s 5th edition either.
Thank you so much for your help in advance. This is driving me crazy.
Thanks so much for helping. Yeah I believe I saw all those in the fifth edition. I think there was one in the third edition that I did not see but none of them are just a basic T
Perhaps I can get some photos of the jewelry. So you all can see what I’m talking about. It’s that very generic overseas import looking jewelry. Lot of pink conch.
The reason I thought of this.
Seems like someone in one of the groups that I’m in mentioned it several years ago and Tim Yazzie said that he did not have a son named Timothy if I remember correctly.
Some of the groups that I am in we are finding tons of imports and artists who don’t exist.
It just gets frustrating when we try to keep the group strictly Native. Anyway thank you. I’ll see what I can find later. I appreciate your help.
Thank you Steve. I appreciate you checking around for me. It’s just exhausting sometimes chasing down these imports. There are so many out there, sadly they are everywhere.
