Trying to hone in on value-Darryl Becenti concho earrings

Hi all, still working my way through a family collection. These look like the work of Darryl Becenti. The prices I’m seeing are ALL over the board, so trying to hit on a reasonable price to ask (liquidating for medical expenses). Thanks for all input!

The best litmus test is to look for SOLD items. Those are real prices, not pie in the sky prices some shops are asking. It’s easy to check on eBay. Past auction sites might require you to sign in to bid square or live auctioneers. It would be worth your time in order to sell at the going rate.

I have a nice large stamped ring (no stones) of his that I bought new in AZ back in 2015. I paid around $150 for it then, don’t know if that’s any help. I believe he has passed away, so his items are worth a bit more now.

Thanks! Didn’t see a lot of comps sold on ebay, will check live auctioneers-

At the risk of offending, keep in mind that stores have overhead and need to price accordingly. And having a website helps while they wait for the “right” person to walk through the door.

Also, buyers that walk through the door are typically willing to pay more. It’s a psychological thing. In my experience if I were to ask a lower price than Tiffany’s for the same item, many would still want to buy from the big T for bragging rights. So in my opinion it’s difficult to price in line with what the well know shops are asking.

Not offended, I can appreciate the Ins and outs of various selling methods. I’ve seen even on ebay people will buy the more expensive of identical options- some is probably due to the algorithms, and some is that ingrained thing that higher price equals better  i just don’t want to price too low or too ridiculously high-and of course ebay takes 13+% on jewelry sales

I believe the price that I paid for one of his large rings was a good price. But I DO agree that store prices are higher because of overhead, however (and this doesn’t really matter) I disagree a teeny bit with the emotional aspect. A lot of people I know buy a whole boatload of stuff online, cuz it’s really easy to do. I think I actually spend less overall, because I think about where I go, what I buy, and I can try it on, which keeps me from wasting my money. I also trust the stores that I shop at much more than I trust eBay and etsy. But I digress!! That has nothing to do with these earrings being priced
I was just trying to give @tepowell an idea of what cost might be, and what a store might sell them for.

Here is a very interesting discussion of his work.

It seems the folks I’ve seen on this site @Ziacat are pretty particular about their purchases and want to be able to handle the item personally and to see if it “fits” them. That I can appreciate. Bear in mind I look at it from a dealers perspective with little emotion unfortunately.

There are definitely things I want to touch before buying (like a sofa!), but more and more people buy almost everything online, and that’s often the only way to find a particular thing! And that bothers them not

And some of us live outside the USA and have few other options

You are correct! I was just referring to online buyers being less emotional in their shopping.

For sure! I’ll confess that I do wish such stores were in easy reach of where I live. But if they were, I’d be a lot poorer than I am right now
