Turquoise Fashion

@Ravenscry

Aaron, did you notice this buckle’s unusual construction? I don’t recall ever seeing anything like it.

Good morning, Tom.

Thank you for poking me, I’ve been intending to comment on this latest addition of yours to the thread.

I most certainly did. Of all the fine silver and turquoise that these models are showcasing, that belt in particular really hit me. The buckle is highly unusual, and the repoussé work looks top notch. Not to mention the care taken in choice, cut, and placement of the stones, the leather is beautiful as well. :+1:

I wish I could get a clearer look at this ketoh-turned-choker, it also looks like a marvelous piece.

Even though it’s beautiful, the Ketoh choker looks really uncomfortable…I’m not sure you could bend your neck :flushed: I prefer those stunning beads!

Here you go, Aaron. Dylan Lauren (Ralph’s daughter) wore the same piece a few years ago.

How cool that Ralph is incorporating NA pieces into the runway! Maybe we’ll see a resurgence of NA style going mainstream.

I love the suit with the shorter squash choker. Gives that classic suit a twist, doesn’t it!!

Doubtful on the resurgence. That runway show was 21 years ago.

After a quick search came up empty, I couldn’t believe I hadn’t done this sooner. I feel Millicent Rogers is well deserving of recognition in this thread. Her tastes in fashion and Native American jewelry both stand out as exemplary. In my opinion, she was the essence of class.

Shared previously, I understand, but this is my favorite photo of Millicent. She is accompanied by her son, Paul Peralta Ramos.

At Turtlewalk, her Taos home.

The following photos are not of Miss Rogers, but were part of a shoot originally published in NY Times Magazine ca. 2000, inspired by Millicent and shot in New Mexico. Connie Nielsen, an actress and the model in these photos, is adorned with jewelry from Millicent’s infamous collection.

Millicent’s jewelry collection and the museum overall are a must-see in Taos. Her Leekya turquoise necklace alone… It weighs nearly 5 lbs!

Great choice of models. She’s absolutely stunning. Loved Nielsen’s work in Gladiator!

Double D Ranchwear also recognizes Millicent’s early contribution of blending Native jewelry with high fashion.

The lady herself…

She has a fascinating story of how she got to where she is now. She’s a horse/rodeo rider, artist, photographer, and business owner.
