Turquoise Fashion

Ahahahaha…I like that description.

I would be interested in reading her biography. Next time i am at the library!

@StevesTrail great earrings!! Another interesting lady that delves into many avenues of art.

I made sure to follow up that classic descriptor with the copyright “©”, as it came from the mind of our very own @TAH, credit certainly doesn’t belong to me. :slightly_smiling_face:

Yea, well, I didn’t see your copyright symbol until I was on with my attorneys, so lucky for you, I was able to call them off. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Phew…thank goodness!..I couldn’t sustain a lawsuit, I’m running out of conchos to settle debts with.

Okay, ladies, here’s your chance for authentic Turquoise Fashion… :slightly_smiling_face:

Price actually does not seem bad given the age, condition, and silver (assuming they mean coin or sterling). The word “silver” is/can be very deceptive when used alone in a description.

Alright, Tom, time to knock a few things off the wall to make room. This would make a marvelous compliment to you and your wife’s 1940’s deerskin Cree Indian dress! :+1:

Hmm, interesting idea, Aaron. I know the in-law pictures have been up for a while. :joy:

If not removed from the wall, perhaps simply obscured by the torso mannequin that you display this lovely velvet garment on!! :+1:

My mother-in-law’s vintage La Azteca Chimayo vest. Unfortunately, it is too small for me so I will probably sell it. But prices on eBay are all over the place. Does anyone know what the price range for La Azteca hand woven vest would be? It is a really cool vest with nice closures.

Amazing jewelry in this shot, Aaron. Everything is absolutely top notch, and the unique construction of the squash is striking. Really love the bold simplicity of the diagonal striated stamped cuff! Where is this photo from?

I’m glad you enjoyed, Mike.

I’m not saying the squash she’s wearing is, but Etsitty Tsosie was known to create squash blossoms along this same design. The bow element directly above the naja and the somewhat unique corn elements in place of typical squash blossoms are indicative of his work.

One nearly identical to this one sold at the Sotheby’s auction of C.G. Wallaces collection in 1975 (lot #215) and again in 2020 at Cowan’s.

This example was sold by The Potomack company in 2023.

Attributed to Etsitty Tsosie, ca. 1920

I thought that was unique as well, especially for the age of the photograph. It also reminded me of your birthday cuff!

It was a publicity photo used by photographer Helene Fischer, I stumbled across it last night while I was neck deep researching Edward Curtis. :+1: I’m unsure of it’s original use.

I see what you mean by the construction of the Naja in particular. The bow element at the top of the crescent really stands out. It looks like the Tsosie example employed sand, or tufa casting to fashion the blossoms and some of the Naja elements. All in all both were fairly complex to produce, and took a real master to pull them off so beautifully.

I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if I saw the bold cuff you mentioned, and this extraordinary squash blossom necklace, in the Millicent Rogers museum. I think Ms. Rogers would’ve deeply appreciated the craftsmanship in this NA jewelry.

Good memory, @Patina. From the few photos I have from our visit, the cuff at the bottom left corner is the closest.

Here’s a photo taken by my Uncle on one of his many travels (he passed in 1989). Possibly taken in AZ in the 1960s -'70s though that’s a guess. No personal writing on the reverse - only “Kodak Paper” faintly visible. Photo is matte finish with an overall beige coloring. Mom & children are all wearing necklaces. The 2 older girls are wearing concho belts. I cherish this photo. Unfortunately, all other travel photos of his got tossed :slightly_frowning_face:.
