What is this little thing?

This is was in a lot of jewelry I purchased a while ago and I have no idea what it is. Does anybody know?

A pendant with an open hook bale.

Oh lol, I told my friend it went on your shirt. Thanks so much chicfarmer. I thought it went where you put a tie on a man’s shirt

I agree with Chic…it is probably so large so it can accommodate a string of beads or turquoise nuggets.

Thanks Xtina  The large opening makes so much more sense now.

I attaches to a hair elastic for a snazzy ponytail look.
You slide it over the hair elastic to decorate your ponytail.

@Stracci That’d be cute! A usage I didn’t know of. Of which I did not know.

Yeah, it’s for a ponytail
I have a few of these at home, I’m in the car right now but I’ll take some pics soon…

This one was on eBay

That is a wonderful idea :grinning: I wear a ponytail band thingy everyday. Now I’m gonna try it. I’m glad you responded, I almost gave it away

Here are three that I have.
The round variety are fun to wear, too.
The larger round one can also be worn as a pendant.

Very cool idea  So are the other two pieces buttons? I like this idea a lot. Thanks so much Stracci.

I’m betting the little thingamabob can be used for both, depending on what the artist puts it on. I’ve got a pendant (which is definitely a pendant) with a very similar attachment. At first I was a little confused, but it fits nicely on my link chain.

No, they are not buttons. They are made for hair ties. It’s a real thing…I didn’t make this up!
These are all examples below.

I believe you, I’m just saying the thing on my pendant is similar and it’s supposed to be a pendant, so maybe a double usage.

Looks really pretty!

@Ziacat
It’s kinda fun when you think about all the ways you can repurpose jewelry!
@CyanideRose18 I think you could use that little doodad just about anywhere.

I’ve always wanted to wear a brooch in my hair, but I never attend any fancy events.
I also really want a sterling and turquoise barette.

Ok now I’m totally into these  Thanks so much Stracci. I am now going to look for some. They look so pretty worn. I could see a French braid with a couple of these. I had a sterling silver barrette but I haven’t been able to find it since I moved. I may have given it away to one of my nieces. But I’m gonna check a few other places.

I see what you mean. I think you helped me with a necklace I purchased that had a little hook like that that I thought was soldered and that part came off  The hook on this one was so huge, I wasn’t sure but now I know they are so versatile, I’ll have to see I’ve there are anymore in there. Thanks so much Ziacat.
