Started SGW 3 years ago…now you have to spend too much time to find a good deal. I occasionally go to my local GW to look for clothes for the grandkids, but they have no jewelry. Today I got my last buy…what a pretty ring…right?

What’s your size, Stracci?

I had a neighbor who paid their mortgage by thrifting designer label items and selling them on eBay years ago when her husband was out of work, she managed to “save the family farm” by doing it. It was almost a full time job for her. Once Shop Goodwill opened up, and each store hired a well versed picker, that made it harder for us to find treasures. It’s almost is a bigger deal now when things slip through and we find them in the stores (victory!).

I found a $500 Filson garment bag for $10 and gave it to my dad a few years ago. I think I know why it was donated, it weighed as much as my car empty.

Mike, I only meant that your jewelry is fabulous, and I’ve been keeping an eye out for one of your pieces in my travels!
It was purely a compliment of the highest regard.:star_struck:

Also hoping to purchase an MMRogers piece one day, too. :grinning:. Such beautiful pieces from a very talented and knowledgeable artist that I have a lot of respect for!

This interview that @Steve posted was interesting. I guess with the advent of online researching and shopping, the days of finding a golden egg at your local Goodwill are over. However, to the interviewee’s point in the video, it is good that everyone has a crack at these pieces, not just the resellers whose business it is to clean out the shelves of the best items before other customers can even take a look.

However, I do understand that some people make a living that way and first come first serve is the name of the game.

Thank you for all your comments. I really enjoy wearing your ring @mmrogers . I hope some day I can remove the ring on my middle finger, put it back on my ring finger and then put your ring over it to keep it in place. My wedding ring is too loose on my ring finger but too tight on my middle. . I think they look great together.

Looks great on your finger @nanc9354. I agree the rings together would be a terrific combo!

Is that an Asscher cut diamond?
It’s really pretty

I had to look that word up. All I know is that it was my husband’s grandmother’s diamond and the jeweler said it was a very unusual cut. It is very high clarity. It was on a prong but then the band was big and thin…to fit over my big knuckles…but then it would twirl around and annoy me. So I had a jeweler put the diamond lower. I imagine it would be more sparkly with a higher setting…but I put comfort over looks… Thank you.

Your diamond may be what they called a single cut (or old european cut, similar to a mine cut that was the standard way back when). they tended to be “taller” than the more modern brilliant cut diamond, and sat pretty high when prong set (Tiffany style setting for example) - so makes sense to streamline your setting to make it more comfy.

It’s so pretty! That cut is really desirable.

I had not seen much Depression glass at the local GW for over a year. There were a few pieces that were damaged, and priced at book value for undamaged pieces.
Went there last week, looking for clothes and flower pots.
Went down the glassware aisle. Was in shock.
found a piece near and dear to my heart. Miss America, pink, 4 section relish dish. Yes, I have the one I grew up with, but it has some scratches and chips from almost 100 years of use. I still use it.
Have been collecting Depression glass since I was a child.

This one had great color and was perffect.
I was almost scarred to turn it over to see the price. I have seen some at local antique shops, yard sales and on the internet. Usual price is $10 to $50.

OK, calm nerves here. I turn it over.
Priced at $2.99. Yellow sticker, which was 1/2 off.
It is now in my china cabinet.
Yes, I will be using it.

So, some GW’s still have bargans.
