Wonderful bracelet with 3 green-blue Hubei turquoise

@Ziacat, I completely agree with @Bmpdvm, what a spectacle it must have been to view the pieces in person, even a better experience as it came as a surprise! I’ve got a bolo and buckle that are both attributed to Juan de Dios, but I’ve a feeling the bolo more closely resembles Dan Simplicio’s work. In an effort to keep from derailing @gt75’s thread, I’ll post them separatley.

I recall the buckle you speak of, I look forward to your sharing it!

Aaron

the font was kinda off from the usually seen common standard shelf stock variety with 89 or so variations

always interesting narrowing down the name

The one in Phoenix? Hearing so much about it. Is it a must see?

Sorry if my “doubt thread” is now triggering you guys to worry about your treasures.

@gt75, I believe @Ziacat is referring to her learning so much about Dan Simplicio on the forum in general, that she’s doubting her buckle was made by him. It’s no fault of yours or this thread!

Has nothing to do with that, I don’t doubt most of the things I have purchased, because I’m extremely careful. I’ve been wondering for quite a while now. The shop where my father bought the buckle, closed years ago, so I can’t say I trusted them. I trust Browns.

I also don’t think the buckle is fake; I just think it may be a beautiful work of art made by another artist.

Yes! Totally worth a visit.

That was my definition of fake ;+]

Pinned it in my travel plan 2025. As I did with the Turquoise Museum in ABQ.

My definition of fake is something misrepresented as Native made when it’s not. I don’t think the seller of my dad’s buckle deliberately tried to misrepresent. And TBH, I was 6 or 7 years old at the time and I’m only going by what my dad said, and the bit of information that’s written down. I also had it looked at a number of places, and they were not sure either, and didn’t necessarily think the information my dad had was wrong.

The Museum of Northern Arizona in Flagstaff is supposed to be wonderful. I’ve never actually been able to stop there, because every time we’re out there we’re always doing a million different things. Kind of crazy I’ve never visited it, because I probably been to the Southwest 30 plus times in my life.

I plan to do Antilope Canyons, Grand Canyon and Cameron Trading Post towards Slide Rock State Park and Phoenix, so this is anyway on my way. Monument Valley, Chelly, Petrified Forest and Kingman mine are also on my AZ list, I have some good time to spend in the SW. Enough time to buy some great Native American stuff &+)

Those are all great places! Grand Canyon is my most favorite place in the world  A word of advice on Antelope Canyon if you’re going in the summer. Go early in the day, it’s hot and incredibly crowded later. Make your reservation ahead of time. Slide Rock State Park is pretty cool, although my friend did fall, split her lip and get a bad infection in it while we were there; I’m not sure how clean the water is since it’s so busy.

Sunset Crater National Monument / Wupatki National Monument are very close to Flagstaff and beautiful (and less crowded). We also love the Americana Hotel in Flag. It’s a newly opened and restored route 66 motel.

We always stop at Cameron Trading Post, and the hotel there is another one of my favorites. Definitely stay there if you can.

The south rim of the Grand Canyon will be crazy busy if you’re there in the summer, but I can give you some tips later on how to get away from the crowds.

I spent a lot of time just sitting in a car today, so this was a good thread to keep me occupied!

I don’t know if you’ve read this thread, but quite a few of us discussed a lot of cool places to shop and things to do here. Heading to AZ, yay! But need help
