Now I remember your pendentđ„°! Iâm attracted to all Thunderbird/Eagle jewelryâŠI agree there is a simular âfeelâ! Isnât the Twin Rocks area gorgeous! I just love that area!
So apparently @Patina and @Bmpdvm have influenced me in purchasing a Hopi ring. I generally donât buy online, because I love the experience and memories from shopping in person. But sometimes at Christmas I do buy myself something online, because Iâm not able to get out west at that time. I just ordered a Ruben Saufkie ring from Garlandâs, and I think Iâm going to love it. Thanks yâall I had originally said I needed to buy a new sweeper, but jewelry won outâŠ
Good for you! I look forward to seeing itâŠIâll likely be jealous
Itâs on its way. Iâll post it when I get it, and then it will get boxed away till Christmas
@nanc9354 your cuff reminds me of one that I have; however, mine is somewhat opposite of yours in that the feather is not reticulated while the rest of the cuff is (or rather, I think mine is sandcast, actually). But now I wonder! It looks a lot like your feather, and as @mmrogers described.
Very nice cuff @Xtina! The combination of cast design on one side and overlay on the other side is appealingâŠI like asymmetryđ. And pretty turquoise! No hallmark?
@Bmpdvm Thank you, and I think thatâs what appealed to me when I bought it was that asymmetric design (that and the beautiful stone!). It is hallmarked and I know the artistâs name ⊠itâll come back to me eventually! Will update.
@Xtina, your ring is just delightful. Wonderful design, and such a colourful turquoise! Iâd love to hear who itâs by, too, once it comes back to you
@Bmpdvm @chamekke I recalled who the artist is for my cuff. Itâs Dennis Nofchissey, who unfortunately passed away in 2022.
Thank you for letting us know, @Xtina !
Itâs sad news that he has passed, but Iâm glad you have this beautiful example of his talent to enjoy for many years to come.
My ring came in today, yay! Iâm in love with it. Now I need to put it away till Christmas morning. So glad I got this instead of a sweeper Besides, unfortunately I need the sweeper like, now, so waiting for Christmas I wasnât really an option anyway.
I love the size and the style of the ring, but what really drew me to it is the way he is doing something a little different with overlay. He uses tufa casting as a layer.
So the top of the ring appears to use some tufa casting, but the band is typical overlay. I love the combination.
Here is a little bit of information I found while researching his work . The Perry Null info is not referring to this ring.Ruben Saufkie, Pendant, Square, Overlay Design, Sterling Silver, Hopi, â Perry Null Trading Co
So Iâm very glad this thread inspired me to purchase itđ
@Ziacat What a fabulous ring!! Looks fantastic on you. You could send it to me ~ Iâll be happy to wear, er, hold it for you 'til Christmas .
thank you! You can take some credit for it. Your wonderful Hopi ring collection inspired me
I did have to wear it for a while today to make sure it fit
This is a KEEPER! Your ring looks great on you!
Congrats on finding your perfect Christmas gift @Ziacat! And thanks for the info on Rubin Saufkie. Of course the Saufkie name is well known, but I donât think Iâve ever seen Rubinâs work, so unique! Do you have Schaafâs books on American Indian Jewelry? If not hereâs the info on Rubin:
And, I really like this tufacast overlay pendant!
I had researched him prior to purchasing the ring, and Garlandâs sent me a bio, but I hadnât seen his exact relationship to Paul Saufkie Sr. Thanks! Also nice to see his work in the book.
The lady I talked to on the phone when I ordered the ring was so sweet. She added this to the receiptâŠ
I had mentioned I was buying something for me, so on the bio page where the price is usually listed she wrote, âMerry Christmas to me.â
Congrats, @Ziacat, the ring is spectacular! Ruben S is so artistic and technically strong. I saw his work at Kopavi a couple years ago and was very tempted by an abstract tufa pendant.
Thank you! When I decided I wanted to buy a ring, I checked Garlandâs vintage stuff, and there wasnât anything that I loved in my size and price range, so I decided to look at their new items. Surprise! They had quite a few of his rings, but I liked the long ones best. Now I just have to wait a bit to wear it âŠ
Hey all you Hopi addicts, found these reasonably priced pendents by Ruben Saufkie at Twin Rocks Trading Post (the owner Steve Simpson is a great guy). They are more traditional, not tufa, but I like them both; maybe I should pull an @Ziacat and buy my own Christmas giftđ (My husband wonât even try to pick out jewelry for me; fortunately he typically appreciates what I buy!).

Oh I definitely think you need at least one of those
My husband agreed a long time ago that I do better picking out what I like, and since he is not a fan of shopping, it works well for the both of us
