Martin Grelle, Bent’s Fort Encampment.
I know this man of the Plains isn’t adorned in turquoise, and while he is at Bent’s in Colorado, just north of New Mexico, my story is that he acquired his earrings from a Navajo on the Santa Fe Trail.

Her First Blanket
Little Vera was so proud to show me her first blanket that she had woven with her mother’s guidance and dad’s encouragement that I decided to buy it. She was so pleased when I gave her the money. After fifty years, I still own it, and I used it for this new sculpture. I hope she went on to become a great weaver, just like her mother. - Susan Kliewer
