An old timer from Globe Az 😊

That’s absolutely it to my memory. And that cuff is fitting to that turquoise. Is it a Tufa Cast?

Nice, nice, nice! Who is the artist please? Sorry if I missed it somewhere.

Tufa example for those who don’t know what Tufa is:

That deep red matrix was what the 64 pound nugget we worked was made of. {{{Drooling}}}… Imagine thousands of deep blue mini nuggets embedded in the red matrix. I was hoping to someday see it after it had been slabbed. I’m not sure it was ever cut, but if it was it had to be magnificent.

No worries, new people to the site probably don’t know what it is, and those cuffs are beautiful! I absolutely love the silver one; do you know who made it? The gold one’s gorgeous, but I personally am not a gold jewelry fan, which in my husband’s eyes is good, cuz it saves money

Not sure who the artist is. Let me see if I can find out.

DARRYL DEAN BEGAY is the artist.

Cute little bear claws on each end.

Oh I love it! I actually wondered if that was the artist. Thank you for sharing it! Unfortunately his work is a little bit out of my price range

I know you said you’ve been enjoying the forum, and I thought you might enjoy these 2 threads.

Why are we turquoise people?

Very nice. I will check them out.

Going back to the hallmark on the gold Cuff, does anyone know the name Steve Gurrero? The estate contact said she thought that was the artist’s name.

Thanks!

There are several Navajo jewelers with that last name (same family I believe), but I couldn’t find a Steve.

Hi @Bisquitlips. Unfortunately, my cuff is not a cast piece. It was by a Washoe native, Lucky Preston. Years ago I used him for all my repairs, modifications, etc on my NA jewelry. He worked at a gallery in old town Sacramento and trained with Ben Nighthorse Campbell. I purchased the cuff from Lucky years prior to obtaining the turquoise, then asked him to mount the cab on the cuff. I’m very happy with it. If I’m able to pick up additional
Lost Vein cabs, I’m thinking of having Daryl Dean Begay make a cuff for me. I knew the cuff you posted was by Daryl Dean!!! It’s his classical work and so similar to a ring of his I have (Candelaria turquoise):

And, my smaller Lost Vein cabs in the earrings show much more of that gorgeous deep reddish matrix:

Your ring is gorgeous! If I am fortunate enough to acquire a piece of the SBLV Turquoise, Daryl may have another piece to make! He is a wonderful artist, but as good as he is, I expect to be on a waiting list.

I think I will put mine in yellow gold. I love silver, but my favorite look is turquoise and gold.

On your cuff, Lucky is very talented to make that cuff look rock casted! I cannot imagine the work it took to get that look. He must have a secret to that finish.

Can you point me to any information on the family? I searched for them, but came up with nothing related. It may be the spelling. Frustrating! Grrrrr! It can’t be that hard. :sunglasses:

CB Hallmark and signed Chester Guerra?

This is a thread that talks about the Guerro family. I only know the info I found in the past by googling Phillip Guerro, because I have a cross made by him. I have not seen anything about a Steve.

Edit: Wait - I just realized you are spelling it differently; maybe you’re talking about a different family?

Thanks Steve. I’m still trying to track down the artist of Hardy’s watch cuff. The estate folks say it is Steve Guerro (the spelling per them), and I’m not finding him. So I am thinking perhaps another name beginning with S. Perhaps Sam or Sidney or something.

The last name could be spelled Guerrero or some other spelling.

At this point, it’s an enigma. I was hoping to find the exact stamp of the recessed rectangle with the prominent SG on top.

I’ll keep looking. I like running these kinds of mysteries down. Being that this cuff was made some 50 years ago by a potentially elderly artist, it may be that his hallmark has fallen off the typical records and I may need to find artist stamp records that go back 40 or do years. I know that the ancient and well-respected family of Singer has seen some of the same obscurity issues over the decades.

Hallmark/Stamp in question:

I have not come across a Steve Guerro yet, and I have looked (due to researching my cross pendant). Sellers often get things wrong (although I imagine you know this). I couldn’t find anything with the other spelling.

I am not on Facebook, but if you are maybe you could see if any of the Guerro family are and contact them to see if there is a Steve.
