Thanks @Bmpdvm! I do have a fairly large long heavy squash that my dear Mother In Law gifted me. It is a little different in that it does not have actual fluted blossoms. I love it because she gave it to me and I really like the bright blue turquoise. It is pretty heavy and because of that I have only worn it a couple times. Mostly I just stare at it
Oooh, now that is a superb squash blossom, I love it😍. That’s what I love about these necklaces, such a great variety of styles! What a fabulous gift, she has great taste! Does she collect NA jewelry? Several folks on this site have wonderful pieces inherited from family members. I wasn’t that lucky, but always love seeing pieces passed down from family. Great that you love it enough to display it (along with your sweet Puffins)!
I would like to contribute my one and only article of this beautiful form. A dear friend of mine, who lives just north of me a ways, is selling some of the jewelry that she and her late husband had collected on trips to the southwest. This came from her collection. While it may not be an incredibly early example, I was drawn to the naja, beads, and overall stampwork.
I really like this squash. At first glance it looks to be a simple example. Then you look at the details! The naja is amazing. The stamp and bead work is an added bonus. Very nice.
Aaron, that might be your one and only squash blossom necklace, but what an example! The stamp work on the naja and beads and the filing above each blossom gives much texture to the overall piece. Beautiful and you captured the sunlight perfectly.
Well I guess it’s time to enter the sharing spot since we have several squashes. This has become my favorite since purchasing at this year’s GON along with Alexander Becenti’s 3 1/2 x 4 1/2 bolo.
Who needs a box or bag when Sonoran Gold goes so well with a No.8 bolo!!
@Ravenscry… I really like your squash blossom. I’ve seen najas similar to this one, but yours has those highly stamped beads! As I’ve said, one thing I like about squash blossoms is the extensive variety of styles…from the wonderful simple historic pieces, to the great silverwork like yours, and the wonderful large cluster style bolo @TryingToLearn posted.
And @TryingToLearn, l love your simple, but gorgeous No. 8 bolo (the turquoise is the star!)
I would tend to agree @Bmpdvm, there are many, many variations on this form, each of them beautiful in their own right. Thank you and @chamekke for your kind words, I’m glad others have enjoyed seeing it.
Really enjoyed this post! Unfortunately, I have not yet found that squash that calls to me. I tend to prefer shorter, more choker style necklaces, and don’t really think I would wear a traditional long squash…long necklaces flap around too much on me. And that’s a shame because these necklaces are so beautiful! Maybe one day I’ll find the right one.
I do have a shorter necklace that may qualify as a baby squash, but does not have a naja. Maybe one day I’ll find a short naja that I can wear on my neck ring.
@Xtina I really like your mini squash choker style station necklace. The blue greens and blues are gorgeous especially with the pottery you staged it with.
@Tinyturqgrl thank you! Lucky to have both the pottery and the necklace. I like that the turquoise is different colors, indicating that it’s natural! Got lucky on that pottery and found it in Sedona on one of the roadside stands.
