Ok…so I’ve had a Bit too much to drink, being totally upset at losing 2 games of Catan because “my numbers never got rolled”. but what’s consoling me is that I’ve always wanted a Carl Quintana Amethyst pendant and I just got mine in the mail today after winning $120 bid on it on a quiet night. . Such nice work!

OooooOooooh! That is quite lovely!!!

I love silver and amethyst - I made myself a Celtic charm bracelet with amethyst accents, I jingle when I move my arm (I think I like all styles of charm bracelets - they’re like stories on your wrist).

Buying jewelry is one of the better addictions to have. Wonderful pendant. Bet you can’t wait to lose again.

Oh, what a pretty pendant! Such a sweet deal on the price, too. It’s always a thrill to finally get jewelry that we’ve been wanting. Amethyst is one of my favorite gemstones ~ I like it mounted in both sterling silver or yellow gold. Enjoy wearing your new treasure!

Beautiful pendant! But now you made me look up Catan, because I had never heard of it

I made a similar comment to a friend years ago (it was the 80’s and Miami Vice was on TV, so coke was everywhere), I’d rather spend my money on shoes, jewelry and purses - as at the end of the day, I still had them (and nose intact as well).

Thanks everyone for the replies and nice comments on the pendant. Our family members are big competitive Catan players. Sometimes we have Catanathons and even a potential Catan divorce…:joy::rofl:. You know it’s a good game when you can never find it at a thrift store. OTOH…if you want to know what games not to buy…the thrift stores will show you. I sometimes think I need mental help with my jewelry buying addiction, but if you compare it to cocaine addiction…I guess I’m not doing so poorly.

We have been known to have Mexican Train domino-athons, gets pretty testy but no divorces …yet…

I just picked up this Hopi ring by Anderson Koinva. He learned silversmithing from his father-in-law Bernard Dawahoya. Anderson is also the grandson of Paul Saufkie. He still hammers his rings and cuffs into a dome shape which is not very common anymore. His hallmark is Tawa’s forehead above a snake.

I like it more the longer I wear it.

Im just seeing this now.
Fabulous jewelry! I adore that Perry Shorty cuff!
The little spiral details he adds are always perfect. Good looking spirals are hard to do.
I spoke to him at Indian Market in September.

That green chile cheeseburger looks divine…

Oh @chicfarmer, sounds like you guys had a wonderful trip…I love the Southwest in the fall. And, I must say you came away with a wonderful assortment of pieces by fabulous jewelers.
Although I’m aware of Robert Sorrel, I’ve not seen much of his work…gotta say that buckle had moved him to my “want” list!
You picked up some wonderful pieces from some of my favorite artists:
I’ve always loved Norbert’s work and that cuff has me drooling😍.
Your Perry Shorty cuff is supurb! And…I believe I have it’s younger sibling: can’t see it in this photo, but mine has such similar stamp work on the sides:

Your Deanna Tenorio piece is also wonderful! It’s fun to see the variety of work she produces. This is a clam shell heishi, coral, and 14k, 6 strand necklace I purchased from her on the Wheelright patio where she was demonstrating during the 2014 Indian Market:

I’ve never been to Madrid, but want to get there before too long. And…like you I frequently take pictures of food😆. Great jewelry and great food…no better combination.
Any suggestions about Madrid would be appreciated!

Thanks again @Xtina and @Stracci. I haven’t met Perry in person yet, but we’ve written back and forth while working on custom orders and I think spoken on the phone. @Bmpdvm your Perry bracelet is exceptionally great; how fun that we have stylistic “sibs.” May I say, your Deanna Tenorio necklace is droolworthy!

New additions. Anyone knowledgeable about Pacific Northwest and Haida Kwakwaka’wakw jewelry? Does anyone know who ALFRED might be.(last name)

Then I picked up a nice cuff by Able Arthur. How does one get the texture on the feather?

Thank you!

Very nice pieces, @nanc9354!

The texture on the feather is reticulation achieved by fluxing the silver, applying a layer of silver filings to the surface, and then heating the silver to just below the melting point of the whole assembly, fusing the silver filings to the formerly smooth surface of the feather, creating the granular effect.

I think “ALFRED” may be Harold Alfred – bio here on the Lattimer Gallery website, another here on Artina’s. He is indeed Kwakwaka’wakw.

Unfortunately these galleries don’t show the backs of these pieces (grrr), but compare your piece with this Sea Otter bracelet. The eye in particular is very distinctive.

I live in a city with an Artina’s gallery, so I can pop in next time I’m downtown and ask to see a Harold Alfred piece so that I can check the mark.

P.S. I did find one gallery with some very small pieces, and they do show the back, but in those cases they are simply stamped STERLING. I am wondering if your piece might be an older one. Any idea of its age?

@nanc9354, I found another Harold Alfred piece with an actual personal mark here. Here’s a close-up:

I think the HJA monogram on the back of this brooch is very likely the same as the (mostly excised) first “letter” on the back of yours.
